Demonstrating the exceptional proficiency of Emirates Healthcare Services, the medical team at Al Qassimi Hospital's Cardiac Center in Sharjah achieved a groundbreaking feat, as they successfully implanted the first wirelessly-powered dual-chamber permanent pacemaker for a sixty-year-old patient facing heart conduction challenges and bradycardia. This significant milestone not only enhances Al Qassimi Hospital's impressive legacy but also signifies a pioneering advancement as the first device of its kind to be implanted in the Middle East for treating these conditions.
Led by Dr. Mohamed Magdy, Head of EP Department at Al Qassimi Hospital, the medical team implanted the cutting-edge device using non-surgical transvenous catheterization through the skin, a technique that reduces complications compared to traditional pacemaker implantation methods. This innovative device comprises two parts installed in the right ventricle and right atrium respectively, communicating wirelessly to synchronize the heart chambers' functions. The device allows independent pacing of the right atrium and right ventricle, or synchronous pacing, reflecting Emirates Health Services (EHS) commitment to advancing medical excellence and innovation in healthcare. This achievement reinforces its position as a leading center for innovative medical applications and advanced medical technology locally and globally.
Dr. Aref Al-Nourani, the Director of Al Qassimi Hospital in Sharjah, highlighted that this groundbreaking global achievement is a significant stride toward bolstering the UAE's reputation as a premier hub for medical innovation. Dr. Mohamed Magdy, a Consultant and the Head of EP Department at Al Qassimi Hospital, explained, "We implanted the device through a specialized entry point in the thigh without any wires or the need for surgical incisions, unlike traditional wired pacemakers. Following the procedure, the patient was in stable condition and will receive ongoing vital monitoring and necessary medical care until discharge from the hospital." He emphasized the procedure's high precision and minimal risks. Leveraging modern advanced techniques, our medical team successfully installed the device without any complications. Dr. Magdy expressed pride in this achievement, recognizing its role in enhancing the quality of life for heart patients in the UAE.
