H.E. Dr. Yousif Mohammed Alserkal, Director-General of Emirates Health Services (EHS), visited Khorfakkan Hospital to inspect the upgrades to the emergency department at the hospital. The department adopts the latest internationally accredited medical practices and technologies deployed in various EHS facilities to improve healthcare services and upgrade medical facilities.
H.E. Dr. Alserkal, emphasized that EHS is committed to providing the best healthcare for the community. This commitment ensures the delivery of services at the highest levels of quality and efficiency, meeting the needs of individuals in light of the evolving healthcare sector, characterized by leadership and sustainability. He highlighted EHS' dedication to continuously improve all aspects of healthcare services to guarantee the best care for patients.
H.E. added that the Emergency Department at Khorfakkan Hospital strives to improve the quality of healthcare services and create a more caring environment for patients and visitors. This is achieved by enhancing the hospital's capacity and equipping it with the latest technologies and medical equipment to elevate the level of care and treatment provided to patients in emergency cases. These efforts align with EHS' strategy and the national vision for comprehensive development of the healthcare sector. Furthermore, they contribute to "We the UAE 2031" vision and the “UAE Centennial 2071” goals.
During his visit to Khorfakkan Hospital to inspect the facility, H.E. Dr. Alserkal was welcomed by Dr. Abdalla Albloushi, Director of the hospital. Dr. Albloushi provided a detailed explanation of the upgrades implemented in the emergency department. The department currently features a 3-bed intensive care unit, an observation and treatment area with 15 beds, two isolation rooms, a modern plaster room, additional rooms for minor surgical procedures, ambulance facilities, and ventilators.
During his visit, H.E. Dr. Alserkal also toured the crisis and disaster control room, cardiac resuscitation training room, and a simulation training lab that highlights the hospital’s focus on a continuous medical training approach to upskill medical staff. Additionally, other facilities including rest areas and meeting rooms have also been added to improve the working environment of the hospital staff.
Dr. Albloushi emphasized that equipping patient rooms with modern monitoring devices and a central screen enables the medical staff to monitor the patients throughout their stay. He also highlighted that the emergency department is fully prepared to handle crises and can increase the number of beds in the observation and intensive care areas as needed, along with dedicated isolation rooms. The hospital has made significant efforts to enhance its medical capabilities and expertise by adding specialized personnel in cardiology, neurosurgery, general surgery, and urology, which is a valuable addition to the medical team. This ensures the provision of comprehensive care for critical cases.
H.E. Dr. Alserkal commended the efforts of the hospital management, particularly the emergency department, in enhancing its operational efficiency. He also expressed appreciation for the efforts of the administrative, medical, nursing, and technical staff. He urged them to continue their work in promoting digital transformation, fostering innovation, and developing healthcare services to meet the highest standards. He also emphasized the importance of providing facilities for senior citizens and people of determination in line with the seven-star system to achieve optimal results and contribute to delivering healthcare services that align with the highest international standards and best practices. This commitment solidifies the position of EHS facilities, enhancing their competitiveness at the local, regional, and global levels.
H.E. Dr. Alserkal conducted a tour of various medical departments to ensure the implementation of the upgrades and renovations. He listened to the opinions and suggestions of patients and their families, as well as medical and nursing staff, to better understand their needs and enhance services. He visited the Customer Happiness Centre, where he met with some visitors and heard their feedback and experiences. He also engaged with frontline employees and explored the Innovation Lab to learn about the latest innovative initiatives. H.E. Dr. Alserkal reviewed the star rating system for services and inspected the Employee Happiness Club and the available facilities to enhance the work environment for hospital staff.
During his visit to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), H.E. Dr. Alserkal received a detailed explanation from the head of the department about the operational system. The bed capacity of the hospital’s ICU has been increased to eight beds. He familiarized himself with the mechanisms for training the doctors to use the new equipment and adopt best practices. He also inspected the physiotherapy department and listened to the future development plans of the department. Additionally, he was briefed about the ongoing preparations for international accreditation of the physiotherapy services as part of the 2023-2026 strategic plan of the hospital.
