As part of the implementation of Joint Project 82 to enhance medical preparedness and response to chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) incidents, Emirates Health Services (EHS) is hosting the second ‘Certified Trainers Course’ on emergency medical response, under the supervision of the Secretariat General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and in collaboration with the European Union, the Ministry of Health and Prevention and the Ministry of Interior in the UAE.

Dr. Wedad AlMaidoor AlMheiri, Director of the Emergency Operations Center at EHS, emphasized that hosting this prominent regional event reflects EHS's commitment to enhance preparedness for a swift and effective response to medical emergencies in all forms. This aligns with EHS’ strategy to elevate healthcare in the UAE. She highlighted EHS’ continuous commitment to develop the skills of specialized professionals by organizing and participating in such high-quality programmes, contributing to the national readiness to face future challenges and the integration with regional and international efforts relating to emergency response.

The course, scheduled to take place from November 4 to 15, 2024 at the EHS Training and Development Centre in Sharjah, will bring together participants from GCC countries and employees from various health authorities and other relevant entities in the UAE, such as the Directorate General of Civil Defence at the Ministry of Interior. Conducted in English, the course aims to qualify participants who successfully pass the course to deliver future courses in the same field, aligned with the training plan approved by the National Committee for Emergency Medical Response to (CBRN) incidents.

The first ‘Certified Trainers Course’ was held last year at Abu Dhabi Civil Defence Academy, spanning two weeks and was attended by 52 participants from the Ministries of Health and Civil Defence, who work in the first and second lines of defense as part of (CBRN) incident response teams. These courses, organized in cooperation with the EU CBRN Risk Mitigation Centres of Excellence, aim to prepare certified trainers in this field in partner countries.
