International Nurses Day 2022

His Excellency Dr Yousif Mohammed Al Serkal, Director-General of Emirates Health Services (EHS), asserted that International Nurses Day, which falls on May 12 of each year, is a prominent platform to highlight efforts nurses and the pivotal role they play in providing healthcare services to patients, especially in times of health crises. “Our wise leadership’s vision is to strengthen and  advance the nursing profession as a strategic asset, where nurses constitute the first line of defence to ensure the health and safety of every member of the community,” he said, noting the prominent and influential role they played during the COVID-19 pandemic and in the recovery phase.

Dr Al-Serkal underlined that EHS takes pride in and appreciates the tremendous efforts nurses make in the UAE and around the world, applauding their sacrifices and the sense of humanitarian and national duty they exhibited, carrying out their responsibilities efficiently and professionally, and setting an inspiring example in humanitarian work and in providing the highest standards of healthcare services. “This is in line with the aspirations and ambitions of the UAE government and its commitment to advancing the nursing profession and empowering it to embrace international best practices in the nursing sector,” he added.

Dr Al-Serkal explained that EHS is committed to shedding light on the nursing profession and improve the efficiency and performance of its cadres, in addition to attracting young national talent through educational and training programmes, available across all hospitals and healthcare centres under the EHS umbrella. “This is in line with our strategy to supply the healthcare sector with experienced national nursing talent to develop the nursing sector and grow the pool of nursing talent with highly skilled professionals who keep pace with the latest medical and nursing technologies to provide integrated health services across various medical fields and specialisations,” Dr Al-Serkal concluded.
