Emirates Health Services (EHS) celebrates a significant achievement as Khorfakkan Hospital secures reaccreditation by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF). Recognized once again as a "Baby-Friendly Hospital," this recognition underscores the hospital's steadfast commitment to top-tier healthcare standards and the exceptional dedication of its administrative, medical, and nursing teams.
Following a meticulous three-day assessment by the World Health Organization and UNICEF, this recognition underscores Khorfakkan Hospital's dedication to providing high-quality medical services and advanced care standards for mothers and children. The accreditation is a testament to the hospital's adoption of a breastfeeding policy, implementation of the Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding, and successful compliance with international and local policy application tests.
Dr. Abdalla Albloushi, Director of Khorfakkan Hospital, stressed the significance of this designation for both the hospital and all Emirates Health Services facilities. He emphasized its reflection of a steadfast commitment to delivering premier healthcare for all community members, particularly children and mothers.
Dr. Albloushi also highlighted Khorfakkan Hospital's continuous dedication to providing services that enhance the health and well-being of mothers and children, ensuring a nurturing and comfortable environment in line with EHS’s goals and aligned with "We the UAE 2031" vision and aims to achieve the UAE Centennial 2071.
The hospital has met specific benchmarks of the global initiative, focusing on enhancing access to breastfeeding support services. This encompasses training and preparing healthcare professionals, educating mothers on the significance of breastfeeding before and after childbirth, delivering immediate postnatal care, and promoting skin-to-skin contact between mothers and newborns. These initiatives are instrumental in improving communication and fostering beneficial feeding practices.
It is worth noting that the global “Baby-Friendly Hospital” Initiative aims to protect and promote the health of infants and young children by focusing on the needs of both the mother and her newborn to facilitate successful breastfeeding. Additionally, it encourages, protects, and enhances an optimal breastfeeding approach for the health of both the child and the mother.
