Kuwait Hospital in Sharjah, an Emirates Health Services (EHS) facility, has announced a series of remarkable achievements in treating complex gastrointestinal and bronchial cases using the latest endoscopic surgery techniques. For the first time in EHS facilities, the modern "Spyglass" technology was employed, elevating the quality of healthcare services in the hospital to meet the highest international standards.
Dr. Afra Salim, Director of Kuwait Hospital in Sharjah, emphasized the hospital's commitment to utilizing advanced technologies to provide outstanding, high-quality healthcare services to patients. She highlighted the continuous support from EHS in adopting the latest innovations and developments in healthcare services, and the ongoing training of medical and technical staff to handle all medical cases. These efforts drive progress and leadership in the services offered across EHS facilities, aligning with the UAE’s aspirations to achieve its "We the UAE 2031" vision and Centennial 2071 goals.
Dr. Thomas Cherukara, Consultant Gastroenterologist and Head of the Endoscopy Unit at Kuwait Hospital, reaffirmed the hospital's commitment to a clear vision in line with EHS’s goals. The ongoing advancements in the Endoscopy Unit reflect this vision in practice. He pointed out that the use of cutting-edge technology and the expertise of the medical team are the two main pillars for providing the highest quality and most effective healthcare services.
Regarding the cases treated using gastrointestinal endoscopy, Dr. Cherukara explained that the medical team successfully performed an innovative procedure on a septuagenarian patient who had a large stone in the bile ducts. The use of endoscopy allowed for minimally invasive treatments, avoiding the need for major surgical incisions and reducing the risk of complications while speeding up recovery.
Additionally, the hospital treated a patient in her 60s who arrived at the emergency department suffering from recurring bleeding due to gastric varices. The specialized medical team successfully stopped the bleeding using endoscopic ultrasound technology. A total of 782 endoscopic procedures were performed at Kuwait Hospital in Sharjah during the first half of this year, including 392 procedures for endoscopy outpatients and cases referred from other healthcare facilities, highlighting the hospital's leading position in this field.
EHS has equipped the Endoscopy Unit at Kuwait Hospital with advanced technologies and equipment for treating gastrointestinal and bronchial diseases, including the first-of-its-kind tumor removal technology in EHS facilities. This includes colonoscopy and gastroscopy tumor removal procedures, demonstrating EHS’s steadfast commitment to equipping its facilities with the latest technological innovations. This is in line with its strategy to enhance quality and safety systems according to the highest global standards.
