New qualitative treatment for paediatric diabetes patients at Al Qassimi Women’s and Children’s Hospital

The medical team at the Endocrine and Diabetes Unit of the Al Qassimi Women’s and Children’s Hospital under Emirates Health Services (EHS) has launched a new treatment for diabetes patients in the paediatric category, using a sophisticated Tube-free adhesive insulin pump, which is being used for the first time in the country, in Arabic language settings.

His Excellency Dr. Issam Al Zarooni, Acting Executive Director of the Medical Services Sector at EHS, said EHS is committed to leveraging advanced medical developments and focuses on offering the latest treatments and modern technologies across its health facilities. This is part of the implementation of its leadership’s strategy to ensure international best practices in healthcare delivery. He added that the new technology used at Al Qasimi Women’s and Children's Hospital has been a remarkable success in treating the first group of diabetics.

Dr. Safia Al Khaja, Director of Al Qassimi Hospital for Women & Children, said the successful launch of the new insulin pump is an important step in the development of advanced treatments to care for children with diabetes. The new device provides an unprecedented experience in managing diabetes and contributes to improving the quality of life for patients and providing high quality health care for them.

Al Khaja praised the role of the staff at the Endocrine and Diabetes Unit and valued their relentless efforts and endeavours to provide comprehensive health care and integrated services to patients and their families. This reflects their professional and humanitarian commitment to providing the latest medical technologies to meet the needs of patients and provide the best possible healthcare services.

The launch of a tube-free insulin pump is an important achievement in the treatment of diabetic children and was achieved through the combined efforts of the hospital's staff. The initiative was led by Dr. Akil Farouk, Head of the Unit, and Dr. Elham Al Amiri, Consultant Endocrinologist and Diabetes from the Visiting Physicians' Team in addition to doctors at the department and the Health Education Team as well as the nursing staff and nutritionists. They supported the patients and their families by providing them with information on the new therapeutic method through psychological and nutritional education as well as efficient follow-up to achieve the best outcomes.
