Emirates Health Services Screens Educational Medical Video at Expo 2020 Dubai Showcasing Its Range of Training Programmes

Emirates Health Services (EHS) screened an educational medical video at Expo 2020 Dubai as part of its agenda for UAE Innovation Month, which consists of a series of activities grouped together under the slogan ‘We Innovate for Health Leadership’. The video aims to highlight one of the most important training projects under the umbrella of the EHS’ Training and Development Centre.

EHS produced the video to raise awareness in the medical community about the training service it offers for medical professionals – including privilege programmes, residencies, and clinical fellowships – which serve to fulfil EHS’ mission to develop advanced medical competencies and ensure efficient, high-quality healthcare services are provided to all members of the community, in line with international best practice.

EHS is leading a campaign to upskill medical graduates and empower them, through a bundle of training programmes to develop medical staff’s ability to play their central role in building an effective health system. Medical education programmes provide a basis for refining the clinical skills of physicians and contribute to producing highly competent medical staff, capable of providing the best innovative healthcare practices.

The video presents a comprehensive overview of educational simulation programmes and skills, showcasing a diverse set of medical cases, highlighting outstanding academic staff with excellent clinical training skills, and underlining various topics, such as research and innovation, advanced specialisations, and multi-discipline education.

Dr. Kulthum Al Blooshi, Director of the Training and Development Centre and Chief Innovation Officer at Emirates Health Services, explained that EHS is proceeding according to a systematic plan to provide the health sector with distinguished medical professionals, offering a bundle of training programmes that target various medical graduates. This serves to ensure quality and adherence to international best practices in the healthcare sector.

The video allowed Emirates Health Services to introduce the medical graduates community to the top=quality programmes it offers, detailing the stages of training they must go through to develop the skills and abilities that qualify them to participate in the various fields of healthcare.

The video focuses on ‘Clinical Training’ and presents in-depth information about training programmes, starting with the ‘Doctor’s Privilege’ training, as one of the most prominent quality programmes catering to doctors post-graduation.

The programme is general and can benefit all specialties, as it provides advanced medical education designed to facilitate the process of selecting or preparing for a specific specialisation. It aims to meet the educational needs of medical school graduates, where the trainee commits to a designated programme throughout the training period.

The video also reviews six ‘Residency Programmes’ approved by the Arab Board of Health Specialisations for UAE citizens. It targets the Ministry’s employees and covers family medicine and paediatrics, emergency medicine; internal medicine; ear, nose, and throat surgery; psychiatry, anaesthesia; and intensive care.

Furthermore, the video provides a detailed overview of the fellowship programme – a specialised training course to obtain a consultant certificate in the specialty that the doctor is training for. The programme provides physicians, after their privilege year, with a set of skills and specialised medical capabilities.

Benefits from the programme include improving and applying skills in noting medical history, physical examination, interpreting clinical data and accurately writing medical records, making a diagnosis and providing appropriate treatment, cultivating and learning new skills needed to perform many medical procedures, and communicating effectively with patients, their relatives, and others healthcare professionals.
