In a groundbreaking initiative to improve healthcare services and meet patient needs, Fujairah Hospital, part of Emirates Health Services (EHS), has announced the introduction of a new medical service in its Dermatology Department. The hospital now offers the cutting-edge XTRAC VELOCITY 7 excimer laser device, which represents one of the latest advancements in the treatment of various skin conditions.
The device operates by emitting a specific wavelength (308 nanometers) of targeted narrow-band ultraviolet radiation. This stimulates and activates skin cells, inducing the necessary external changes for the required treatment, without allowing any radiation to penetrate other parts of the body.
Ahmed Obaid Al Khadeim, Director of Fujairah Hospital, expressed his happiness with the addition of this advanced service to the department's portfolio. He highlighted that it demonstrates the hospital's dedication to delivering the most advanced and superior medical solutions for patients. Al Khadeim highlighted the significance of investing in advanced medical technology, which plays a vital role in enhancing healthcare standards and achieving excellence within the community.
Dr. Jawaher Alnaqbi, Head of Dermatology and Venereology Department at Fujairah Hospital, explained that the device stands out for its exceptional ability to deliver rapid results. It utilizes a high concentration of UVB ultraviolet light and typically involves two to three sessions per week, with a minimum 48-hour gap between each session. Dr. Al Naqbi emphasized that the device is effective in reducing symptom severity and the duration of the spreading of the disease.
Dr. Jawaher Al Naqbi further clarified that the treatment duration and results can vary from person to person and even within different affected areas on the same individual. She highlighted that the excimer laser achieves favorable results within a shorter period and with fewer sessions compared to other laser and light therapy devices. Additionally, the treatment's effects are long-lasting in comparison to alternative treatments.
The excimer laser device is notable for its capacity to deliver rapid, safe, and dependable treatment. Importantly, it is considered safe for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding, as its radiation is primarily absorbed by the outer layers of the skin. Additionally, it is user-friendly and suitable for infants and newborns.
The treatment with the excimer laser requires a proper diagnosis of the dermatological condition after reviewing the medical history and conducting a clinical examination by a dermatologist. Based on the type and severity of the disease, an appropriate treatment plan is formulated. It is essential to adhere to the scheduled treatment sessions in order to achieve satisfactory and favorable results.
Vitiligo is considered one of the diseases that are effectively treated with this advanced technology. It is an autoimmune condition of unknown origin characterized by the loss of melanin pigment in various areas of the skin. The excimer laser device stimulates the pigment cells to restore the natural skin color in the affected areas. Additionally, the device is also used to treat other dermatological conditions such as psoriasis, alopecia areata, and various other skin diseases.
